Surge protection is required to reduce the risk of potentially high voltage spikes into the system. Whilst all FireSense fire alarm equipment contains surge protection, it cannot absorb all the energy as well as a stand-alone surge protector.
Signal Line Protectors are provided to protect any type of control and automation signalling line equipment, such as PLC’s and fire alarm equipment. They provide high energy multistage transient protection for highly exposed circuits.
They all feature “All Mode Protection”, ensuring protection between a signal pair and its earth. This is called “Common Mode” but also monitoring between two or more signal lines is called “Transient mode”.
Multistage transient protection delivers greater levels of protection through a staged approach. The primary stage absorbs the majority of the surge. The remaining stages provide clamping and a degree of redundancy.
Surge protection fusing is also included with the surge protectors. Surge current fuses allow components to absorb maximum energy but in the event of a component failure the fuse will go open circuit isolating themselves from the circuit.
